For Six Count’s first recording with a live audience, Laura Windley of the Mint Julep Jazz Band spoke with Xara Wilde about her latest album, Watch the Birdie, released in fall 2022. 

Laura shares about the recording process for the historic jazz band, converting the album into vinyl, and what’s next for the vocalist and bandleader. 

The event, hosted by Xara on February 18, was attended by area jazz musicians, Lindy Hop and Balboa dancers, and friends of Six Count before a swing dance through the Triangle Swing Dance Society. Thank you to Micah Haycraft for taking film photos throughout the evening and to everyone who came!

Run for the Roses event this May with Laura, Xara at Raleigh’s premiere speakeasy

Join Laura and Xara this spring at Watts & Ward’s Kentucky Derby party on Saturday, May 6! The show (from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.) by Keenan McKenzie & The Riffers will feature Laura on vocals and dance performances by Xara. 

In addition to a viewing party of the 149th horse race, the Raleigh-based event will include craft cocktails and costume competitions. Derby attire required.
